On Saturday, February 24, 2024,   Macon will host a Black History  Event of international proportions  with the observance of the 116th Anniversary of  the Internationally  renown Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the first Sorority of Black  college educated women in the world.  The keynote speaker for the event is the 30th  International Past President and CEO of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc Dr. Glenda Glover.   She is also President of the historical Tennessee  State University, in Nashville Tennessee.

Dr. Glover is a certified public accountant, an attorney, and is one of two African American women to hold the Ph.D-CPA-JD combination in the country.

While the ceremonial event is not opened to the public,  provisions are being made for your audience to  hear from Dr. Glenda Glover on Saturday,  February 24,  in a briefing  prior to the event at 10:00 AM in (the lobb ) of the  Macon Centraplex.   Her accomplishments during her tenure As International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  include “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service”: HBCU for Life: A Call to Action; Women’s Healthcare and Wellness; Building Your Economic Legacy; The Arts; Global Impact. Signature Program #CAP Raised more than $9 million for HBCUs.

At Tennessee State University she is a college administrator and change maker.   Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover retires at  the end of  the academic year as President of Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee, a position she has held since January 2013. Under her leadership as the University’s first female president, TSU has experienced a significant increase in enrollment, alumni fundraising, research dollars and academic offerings.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® (AKA), an international service organization, was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women.  Members Only Federal Credit Union is the FIRST, Black-owned, woman-led, sorority-based, digital banking financial institution in the history of the United States.

Our local president of the host chapter,  Tanya  G. Allen, of the Epsilon Omega Omega Chapter of AlphaChapter Kappa Alpha,Inc is   an award winning educator  who serves as Principal of the historic Burdell Hunt Elementary School in the Bibb County School System. This Middle Georgia celebration includes nine Chapters representing Macon, Fort Valley, Warner Robins, Dublin, Milledgeville and Griffin  as well as representatives from the  campuses  of Fort Valley University, Mercer University,  Georgia College and State University.
